The Birth of the Onion Sock – How a Crazy Idea Became a Life-Saver

Unique – that’s what we truly are. As far as I know, we’re the first and only ones to come up with this extraordinary idea. However, the story didn’t start in a lab or in a fancy start-up garage, but… with my cold feet.

Colds, Stress, and a Miracle Bulb

During my biology and sports studies, I was constantly sick. I often felt exhausted, struggling again and again with bladder infections – and my stress level was somewhere around that of an overtired cheetah.

Due to my knowledge of botany, I decided to search for a natural remedy to support conventional medicine. And during my research, I quickly stumbled upon a rather unlikely hero: THE HUMBLE ONION

Even Paracelsus said back in the 16th century that “an entire pharmacy is contained in an onion.” Sounds insane? It is. But it’s also true. Onion juice has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties and so it cleanses and can support the immune system.

And because I was young, brave, and a little desperate, I started taping fresh onion slices onto – wait for it – the soles of my feet. With bandages and adhesive tape. Not very elegant, but surprisingly effective.

The onion worked, I was thrilled, and my feet smelled… well… distinctive.

When a Home Remedy Saves Parents’ Sanity

A few years later I became a mother and my daughter brought not only love and joy, but also: a never-ending runny nose. Autumn, winter, spring – you know how it is.

My nights were short, my coffee was strong, and my patience… as thin as onion skin. So I thought back to my unusual home remedy and slipped onion slices into her socks at night. A little selfish, perhaps – but sleep is sleep.

Unfortunately, those slices had a mind of their own: constantly sliding around, never staying where they were supposed to. So I thought to myself: There has to be a smarter solution.

The Idea: A Sock with Onion Pockets

After several sleepless nights and a surprising burst of creativity, I developed a pocket system that kept the onion slices securely in place.

That was the moment the Onion Sock was born.

Turning the idea into reality was… shall we say… emotional. Me, with two left hands, sitting at a sewing machine – an image that would probably traumatize my friends forever. Handcrafting is not exactly “my thing.”

But after countless attempts with scraps of fabric and a needle, and referring to the instruction manual in slight panic, there it was: my first Onion Sock.

And trust me: the effort was worth it. My child is rarely sick anymore, and I finally get to sleep again. What more could a mother ask for?

A Fragrant Revolution: The Finally & Jane Scent Pads

So — our product line is growing slowly but steadily. And now we’ve created two new stars: the Finally & Jane scent pads and their matching storage system, the Finally & Jane Pockets.

What the scent pads are really for

The Finally & Jane scent pads are designed to support the user’s sense of wellbeing. The user simply inhales the wonderfully fragrant herbs. With the help of the Finally & Jane Pocket, the little herb pad can be clipped to a nightshirt, placed on a bedside table, or attached to a sweater. Then all you need to do is relax — on the couch or in bed — and let the natural aromas work their magic during a welldeserved break.

Three fragrance lines — three moods

We have carefully developed three different scent lines:

Finally & Jane „Pfuus guet" Pads *(Sweet Sleep)

Made from pure lavender, they support a pleasant, relaxed sleep — and smell simply wonderful. Fun bonus: they work surprisingly well in a closet to keep moths away.  Finally & Jane „Hoi Uusziit" Pads *(Hello Timeout)

This herbal blend consists mainly of lemongrass and redbush. With this scent, you can drift into a much-needed mini-vacation — without even leaving the couch. Finally & Jane „Ciao Pfnüsel“ Pads *(Goodbye, Runny Nose) Eucalyptus! Great for supporting the upper respiratory tract. Anyone who has ever battled a runny nose will appreciate this cozy, comforting scent during a cold.

Natural, sustainable — and delicious?

All three lines are made exclusively from natural herbs. Their first use is inhalation — the calming, cleansing aromatherapy effect.

But the second use is where we earn the medal for sustainability:

After use, each pad can be brewed into a tea.

Yes, a tea! And one pad delivers around 2–3 liters.

Sustainability until the very last drop — isn’t that fantastic?

Our crowd favorite

The bestseller is actually the Finally & Jane „Hoi Uusziit“ line, which some people even use as an air freshener for a car. Because why should the holiday wait until you arrive at your destination? Let the vacation start right in the car! In the end, it’s simple:

The Finally & Jane scent pads support well-being — and thus, ultimately, the immune system.

A perfect circle that fits seamlessly into our philosophy of natural, positive support in today’s world.

What Were the Biggest Challenges?

A good question, and the answer might surprise you:

For Finally & Jane, convincing customers of our modern, natural immune boosters was actually not the biggest challenge.

Especially since the COVID pandemic, people have become much more open to natural remedies that support, complement — or sometimes even replace — conventional medicine.

The Return of Old Wisdom

We didn’t reinvent the wheel. The onion is an old household remedy — but not as a wrap like our grandmothers used to make, and not as vinegar socks (yes, those classic cold remedies are still popular!).

It’s the same ancient knowledge, just reimagined.

The desire to return to trusted, natural methods is a trend that simply resonates with people.

And when you take this timeless wisdom and wrap it in a stylish, modern design with bold colors — well, that’s exactly what speaks to end customers.

The Best Marketing? Real Human Stories.

Of course, there’s something else that gives us confidence: the feedback.

So many customers tell us that the onion socks are a hit and that they truly work.

I receive grateful messages, warm emails, and heartfelt thank-yous — proof that Finally & Jane is on the right path… or, if you like wordplay, that we’re “following the right scent” with the miracle bulb.

Absurd? Maybe. Effective? Absolutely.

At first glance, sticking onion slices to your feet sounds absurd — but think about it: people buy expensive detox patches at the pharmacy and stick them under their soles, too.

They promise a similar effect — yet they’re single-use products.

Our onion socks? Sustainable. Reusable.

And everyone has an onion at home.

Preparation takes minutes, zero waste, zero chemicals — simple and smart.

That gives us a huge advantage over typical drugstore and pharmacy products.

So yes: a major plus for Finally & Jane. Don’t you agree?

Looking into the Future

So, where do we see ourselves in the next five years? Where is Finally & Jane headed?

One big goal is simple yet ambitious: to reach even more people and convince them to strengthen their immune system in a natural, enjoyable way.

Next, we aim to offer our products across Europe and meet the growing demand from health-conscious customers everywhere.

And of course, there’s the exciting part: reviving old, trusted home remedies.

We want to take these classic natural methods, give them a fresh twist, and bring them back into people’s daily lives — old traditions, reimagined for the modern age. I would like to sincerely thank you for this interview – it was truly a pleasure to share my story. And who would have thought that the humble onion, this age-old home remedy of our grandmothers, would one day take center stage? Who knows, maybe we’ll soon have an Onion Olympics or a Foot-Sole Aromatherapy World Championship. One thing is certain: a little humor, a little nature, and a little onion juice can work wonders – at least in our socks! A big thank you also to Stéfanie, who guided this conversation with patience, curiosity, and a smile.
