Interview The Lonesome Southern Comfort Company

Hye Guys how are you ?
Fine, thank you so much.

Could you describe your carreer path ?

We started 10 years ago playing in small clubs and empty bars and, after 10 years, we are still there, playing in bars and small clubs, in front of no one. Anyway we have recorded three albums (LSCC, Charles The Bold and The Big Hunt) and we don’t give up: a new record is on the way and will be published next year.

Music is (for you) above all a passion, a desire or a need ?

It’s more a need. In fact I need to play my guitar to express how I feel when I’m depressed or drunk, or both.

If I told you French song, you say … ?

Jordy (Dur dur d’être un bébé) and Serge Gainsbourg. In fact I don’t listen to French music very much. Sorry. But I like some French bands like Ulan Bator, Air, Yeti Lane or Girls In Hawaii (ok, they are from Belgium) or Swiss French bands (Overdrive Amp Explosion, Honey For Petzi and Sad Riders).

What are your sources of inspiration for writing your lyrics ?

I love history. I love reading books about history. So I like to write songs about those stories. Stories about men and women in danger, difficulty or poverty. And sometimes I write songs about politics and power. It’s just a way to tell everyone my point of view.

Studio or live ?

Both. We really love to record. We really love to be in a studio and create new songs from scratch. We love being surprised by our songs, seeing how they grow up without our control. But we like playing live, being on a stage. We like to rearrange our songs for the gigs. In fact our music sounds really different when we play live. In studio we are very clean and traditional, but are punk and psychedelic when we are on tour.

BB King, Steevie Wonder or Johnny Cash ?

This one is easy: Johnny Cash.

Classique, rock, électro, jazz or hard-rock ?
It is good to take inspiration from every angle: jazz atmospheres, the hypnotic approach of electro-musicians or djs, some hard-rock guitars distortions. And I like how a classical piece can be violent and “hard-rock” without amplified instruments.

What's your best stage memory?

I don’t know. Probably the time when we were playing in Bristol and, 5 minutes before the concert, someone smashed the windows of our van, trying to steal our stuff. We made the angriest concert ever, and it was good.

You are given the opportunity to realize your dream, what would it be?

I dream to meet Winona Ryder. Can you arrange that for me? I’m just kidding. My dream is, one day, to rent a van and tour the US. To play in places like Austin or Oklahoma City, Savannah or Richmond and then west, to San Francisco, Los Angeles, Modesto and Fresno.

What is the person you most want to meet all the world of music?

Will Johnson of Centro-Matic and South San Gabriel. He’s my hero.

Last question to close this interview, we wish you anything for the rest of your musical career?

We hope we are not going to sell our souls.

Thank you very much for answering my questions, I wish you a beautiful continuation in the art world.
